1. Share the project context
Start with the property address or region, the proposed work or structural concern, and any information already available. Plans, photographs, dimensions, site levels, previous reports and authority correspondence can all help establish the first discussion.
This initial information does not replace a formal scope. It helps identify the engineering question and whether the available material is enough to discuss a suitable next step.
2. Define the agreed scope
The required work is confirmed around the proposal, existing conditions, intended use, available evidence and relevant approval pathway. Scope may include assessment, design, documentation, inspection or coordination of additional project inputs, depending on what has been agreed.
A scope does not guarantee a planning or building outcome. It sets out the technical work AHD will undertake, the information it relies on and the deliverables to be prepared for the project.
3. Coordinate specialist inputs where required
A project may need land-survey information, geotechnical investigation, drafting or other specialist material before a reliable engineering response can be developed. The need for these inputs depends on the proposal and evidence available—not simply the project category.
Where appropriate, AHD can coordinate external specialists and use their outputs in the engineering documentation. The specialist’s appointment, scope, findings and availability remain separate from AHD’s engineering role.
4. Prepare the agreed engineering information
Engineering assessment, design or documentation is prepared to the agreed scope using the information and assumptions identified for the project. If new information changes the basis of the work, the project team may need to revisit the scope or coordinate further investigation.
Construction methods, temporary works, site safety, permits, approvals and installation responsibilities sit with the relevant responsible parties. Project documentation should be used alongside the current requirements of the relevant authorities and construction team.
Discuss your project
Start with the information you have.
Send the address, a short project description and any available plans, photos or authority correspondence. AHD can then discuss an appropriate scope and next step.
